Summer is in full swing and many of us are preparing to set off on summer vacations! As you pack your bags, don’t let pre-travel stress interrupt your dreams of sunny paradise. Long lines, roaming fees, and getting lost in translation can be enough to panic even the most seasoned of travelers.
Fear not! The My Data Manager team would like to share some of our favorite apps with you to help you make the most of your phone plan while you travel. We’ve included a mix of tried and tested veterans, newcomers, and apps that harness new technology. And they’re all free!
Predictive analytics powers this flight search app and it claims to save users up to 40% on flight purchases. “The app analyzes billions of flight prices daily to predict how prices will change and sends you a push notification when your flight is cheapest, so that you never miss a deal.” Available on the App Store and Google Play.
Equipped with these on your trusty phone, you’ll be able to get there fast and then take it slow.
2. Google Translate
An essential app that can help you out when you don’t know the local language. This app quickly and easily helps you translate text as you type. It even has a conversation mode which allows two-way instant speech translation in 32 languages. It can also use your phone’s camera to translate street signs and menus. It’s pretty impressive! Available on the App Store and Google Play.
This app, promises to relieve a bit of pre-trip pressure by keeping you organized. “TripList is a packing list app that helps you pack better and faster than ever before. With TripList you will spend less time worrying about what you did or didn’t pack and more time on the things that really matter.” It’s currently only available to download from the App Store. In-app purchases and upgrades, such as weather forecasts and list-creation for multiple users, are also available.
This app offers an easy way to stay aware of where the other members of your travelling party is at all times. Making hide and seek that much more difficult! “Glympse is a fast, free and simple way to share your location using GPS tracking in real time with friends and family.” Available on the App Store, Google Play, and the Windows Store.
5. Mobile Passport Control
Hate filling out that customs form when you get to the US border, especially after the long plane ride? This app will help breeze through customs at many of the major airports across the US. “Officially authorized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Mobile Passport allows travelers to submit their passport control and customs declaration information via their phone or tablet and bypass the regular line to enter back into the United States. This app effectively replaces the traditional blue-and-white paper declaration form required of all travelers entering the U.S. by air.” Available on the App Store and Google Play.
